Spring 2006
at
Sorensen Cellars
2005 Crush is behind us, all wines have completed malolactic fermentation, have been racked and barreled and put to rest to age.
With spring approaching it is time to once again rack previous vintages and
perform what seems like the never ending task of topping barrels.
Where does all of that wine go? Time to bottle up new vintages and
prepare for the “Spring Release”.
Being a small operation we tend to do things on a smaller scale. Our small
bottling line allows us to bottle and cork about 300 cases in a day,
which is a good days work for four of us to accomplish. First up this
spring is our 2003 Cabernet Franc which will amount to just over 150
cases. I think folks are going to enjoy this soft, spicy cabernet franc which
will be available at our Spring Release Weekend of April 22, 23.
Next up is a second Sangiovese from a vineyard near the Tri-cities, called Candy
Mountain. We will have about 250 cases of this wine which is always a favorite
here at Sorensen Cellars. Our 2005 Sauvignon Blanc will also be released in April.
This is the first vintage that we have made from Windy Ridge Vineyard in the
new Horse Heaven Hills appellation. I am excited about this vineyard, as it looks
to be a great site for growing Sauvignon Blanc. Only 100 cases of this nice crisp,
dry sauvignon blanc. A great seafood wine, think oysters on the half-shell!
Also, be sure to join us for our Spring
Barrel Tasting event over Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-29th.
And coming June 1st, our tasting room will be
open seven days a week through August.
So pick a weekend, or two and come out to Port Townsend for a winery visit
and enjoy the great scenery and vistas of our Victorian Seaport City.
Salute!

Tasting Notes....
New Releases
for spring 2006
Sauvignon Blanc
Windy Ridge Vineyard - Aldercreek
A very floral nose with hints of lime and melon and some stone/mineral
characters. Crisp and dry with lime to lemon nuances, some fig and a
terrific lingering finish. 100% tank fermented, this wine has not seen
any oak. Pair with shellfish, shrimp, oysters, scallops.
100 cases produced
$15.00 per bottle
2003 Cabernet Franc
Kendall Vineyard - Sunnyside
A classic Cabernet Franc that has had an extra year in the barrel.
Violets and fresh herbs on the nose moving to spicy, juicy soft fruits
across the palate with a rich finish. Serve with a grilled veal chop.
150 cases produced
$22.50 per bottle
2004 Sangiovese
Candy Mountain Vineyard - Tri-cities
Light fruit on the nose, still a little closed in, but on the palate I
find sweet, candied, jammy fruit. Another juicy wine with plum,
cherry/cranberry fruits with light spicy characteristics. Fire up the
grill for some barbecued chicken.
250 cases produced
$19.50 per bottle
